The Marseille Tarot and Numbers.
When we look at the Tarot, we can see on top of the cards the Roman numbers written as follows:
4 = IIII not IV
9 = VIIII not IX
14 = XIIII not XIV
We can notice that the Tarot de Marseille does addition and does not subtract.
It is not 5-1=4 but 1+1+1+1=4 (IV vs IIII)
We can deduce that the Tarot de Marseille is a progression in a linear fashion, like time.
The numbers reflect an evolution, like a chronological order.
In the Tarot de Marseille, numbers are symbolic. They do not carry the vibration power attributed to number in classical numerology. The numbers as more like picture of archetypes which we can refer to when we make a reading.
The planets correspondence and the major Arcana.
I SUN — II MOON — III JUPITER — IIII URANUS — V MERCURY
VI VENUS — VII MARS — VIII SATURN — VIIII NEPTUNE — 0 PLUTO
